The Bomb in Kabul
This wasn't my choice. Having to be forced into the military. Yes, I know. Being forced in the military is an eccentric thing. But, 5 months ago, I was part of a devastating plan including a grenade. Don't worry. Nothing happened to me. Not yet.
It all started in Oceanside, California. Belonged to Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. I was recruited two weeks ago. I wasn't really in shape, but hey, that is what Marines Corps are for, right? I was 115 pounds, and 5'6 inches. Today is May 29, 2017. I can hear my tiredness coming in as I am taking 80 push-ups nonstop. As long as I hear that whistle, I can never be able to rest. Now, I am 120 pounds, and still 5'6 inches. So, two weeks have been paying off. I met other soldiers my age. I'm 20 by the way. My friends are Tommy, or Tom. I've met him when I wanted to know where the restroom was. It was my first day of training, so you know why. My other friend is Asten. We met when I was in a training for girls only. I met my other friends, Alex, John, Lando in a practice shooting round. We were assigned by groups. We were laughing through the whole training. We all have been best friends for the last two weeks.
I was in the 2nd group mission to travel to Afghanistan to find a group named the Haqqani. They are planning to place a bomb in Kabul. So, me and my group, which is my friends, and I, along with other soldiers came to prevent te bomb, and to protect the people of Kabul. We traveled on tanks. The dusty air ould come to my face, and irritate my eyes for minutes. Once we reached to Kabul, I could see people’s faces looking at me. Once we stayed by to a near motel, we had our rifles on the ground for attack. There were 5 rooms for 30 of us. So, we split by fives in 5 rooms. Us girls got our own rooms for privacy purposes.
It was May 30. At 6:50 am, I was so sleepy, I felt like sleeping through the whole mission. I didn’t know how long I had to stay in Kabul. Not in a rude way. But, I was curious if missions like this could take months. I got dressed up in my uniform, ate breakfast, and woke up some of my friends. Alex, John, Lando and the other 12 soldiers stayed at the motel to guard and lookout for suspicious residents, while Tommy, Asten, and, along with 12 soldiers who got to look around the area. I looked at the children. I could see them smiling as they play basketball. I could see dogs walking around looking for food. It was 5:20 pm, and as we finished eating dinner, we went to the motel, and we looked out for 2 hours. Catching my eyes drooping fown, it was time for us to sleep. We closed our eyes, hoping that tomorrow will be thr same old lookout instead of a war between death.
Opening my eyes, I could see my alarm clock reading out 6:30 am. I knew it was May 31st. Sometimes I wish I didn’t wale up this early. As usual, I woke up my friends, and some of the soldiers. I dressed ip in my uniform, ate breakfast, and went out for the same old lookout with the crew. It was 1:30 pm, and I could see 2 women and 8 men walking the same way in a formation line. One of them spoke in their own language. I was confused. One of the women came out, and talked to Alex. Alex told us that she was speaking English and said that they needed food. Alex and thr woman were talking, but as I saw the man’s hand touching his backpocket, I now know they weren’t here wanting food, they were here to kill us.
I immediately said watch out, and I ducked, running to the cafe shop’s tables. I hid there and watched the man who took out the pistol started shooting crazily, and shouting his language for everyone ti hear. I cod see terrified women, men, children, and animals running away from their homeland. I took a deep breath, and turned around. I began shooting my rifle at the woman who also had a pistol on her hand. Some soldier shot her on the thigh, making her fall into pain. I could hear her screaing In agony. Then, I saw another man holding a grenade, about to throw it to people, and animals who do not deserve to live in a war like this. I ran as fast as I can, and I pushed him as hard as I can. This was for the people, and for the animals. I took the grenade from the ground and I saw that it was on. I immediately ran and threw it to a place it would never hurt a human being and an animal. Then, as The grenade exploded. I could see that the 2 women and 8 men were Haqqani. I saw 3 dead, and 4 of them arrested. The soldiers took the four Haqqani members into the jail car. Now, thatis my story. Pretty overwhelming to read right?
By the way, what’s your story?

I like how you give war a voice of compassion.
